INC Bihar’s birthday comparison contrasts Rahul Gandhi’s job fair with Modi celebrations, but the events do not establish a like-for-like record on jobs

Both underlying events are documented, but the job fair was in June 2025 and advertised 5,000-plus opportunities rather than verified hires; the juxtaposition shows competing political symbolism around employment and celebration, not a like-for-like measure of job creation or governing performance.
On 17 September 2026, the verified Instagram account of INC Bihar posted a short reel captioned “फर्क साफ है” (“the difference is clear”). The split-screen video labels one scene “राहुल के बर्थडे पर नौकरी” and the other “मोदी के बर्थडे पर नौटंकी”, presenting a political contrast between a job fair associated with Rahul Gandhi’s birthday and lamp-lighting celebrations associated with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday.
What the comparison gets right
The underlying events are real, but they occurred in different years. On Rahul Gandhi’s 55th birthday on 19 June 2025, the Indian Youth Congress organised a job fair at Delhi’s Talkatora Stadium. Contemporary reports said organisers expected more than 100 companies and multinational corporations and advertised more than 5,000 job opportunities. Those figures described the fair’s announced scale; they do not by themselves establish how many attendees ultimately received jobs.
On Narendra Modi’s 76th birthday on 17 September 2026, large lamp-lighting events were among multiple celebrations and outreach programmes. The Indian Express reported 76,000 diyas at an Ahmedabad event and more than 10 lakh lamps across over 10,800 sites in Surat; other birthday programmes included sapling distribution, cow donations and bike rallies. India Today also reported a large diya-lighting event at Delhi’s Kartavya Path.
Where the reel’s implication exceeds the evidence
The reel is political messaging rather than a controlled comparison of employment policy or outcomes. It juxtaposes a Congress-linked event from June 2025 with BJP- and community-linked celebrations from September 2026. A job fair can connect employers and jobseekers, while a ceremonial birthday event has a different immediate purpose. Comparing the two therefore documents contrasting choices in political celebration and communication; it does not demonstrate that one party or leader has a better overall employment record.
The slogan also compresses Modi’s 2026 birthday activity into “नौटंकी”. Reporting from the day shows that lamp lighting was prominent, but it was not the only activity: the BJP’s broader Seva Sankalp campaign included service and outreach programmes. Conversely, the advertised availability of thousands of positions at the 2025 fair should not be rewritten as thousands of verified hires without placement data.
The broader issue: jobs as political symbolism
Employment has repeatedly been used as a political theme around leaders’ birthdays. Congress and its youth organisations have previously marked Modi’s birthday as “National Unemployment Day”, while BJP organisations have used his birthday for service and outreach campaigns. The INC Bihar reel fits that continuing contest over how parties publicly frame employment, service and political celebration.
The useful evidence-led conclusion is narrower than the reel’s partisan contrast: the job fair and the lamp-lighting celebrations are documented events, but they are different kinds of activities from different dates and cannot, on their own, measure comparative job creation or governing performance. Establishing that larger proposition would require employment outcomes, programme results and comparable policy evidence rather than birthday-event imagery.
