Saurav Das’s Noida school-access claim highlights a dispute over citizen audits; district officials deny any closure order

On 15 September 2026, Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) co-convenor Saurav Das visited a government primary school in Noida as part of the group’s “School Theek Karo” campaign. In video from the visit, Das’s team is at a closed gate while a woman says the gate would not be opened that day and refers to receiving repeated calls. Das asks whether she can show the message and then argues that the Uttar Pradesh government is afraid of young people auditing schools.
The reel supplied to IndiaFiles was posted by Spot On. Its caption says Das alleged that teachers and principals had been instructed by senior officials not to permit the CJP inspection and that this school and three others were “closed for us”. The clip itself supports the narrower point that the team was not admitted at that gate and records a reference to repeated calls. It does not, by itself, establish who made those calls, what instructions were given, or that schools were closed to students.
A broader closure claim was denied
Separate reporting on the same Noida visit records a broader claim by Das that all government schools in Gautam Buddha Nagar had been directed to close immediately after CJP inspected one school. The Gautam Buddha Nagar District Inspector of Schools office denied that any such closure notice had been issued. This creates an important distinction: evidence that campaign volunteers were denied entry to a campus is not evidence that government schools across the district were shut.
The core issue is access to citizen scrutiny, not a proven district-wide shutdown
“School Theek Karo” is a wider campaign built around citizens and volunteers documenting government-school infrastructure and services. Reporting before the Noida incident described audits focused on toilets, drinking water, classrooms, furniture, meals and teacher attendance, and noted official responses in several states. That makes the Noida gate dispute relevant to a larger public-interest question: how citizen-led scrutiny of public schools interacts with school access rules, administrative control and official accountability.
But the available evidence does not establish that Noida or Gautam Buddha Nagar authorities imposed a district-wide policy specifically to block CJP audits. Nor does it prove Das’s rhetorical suggestion that officials were hiding deficiencies. Establishing that would require the alleged messages or directions, identification of the officials who issued them, and evidence from the other schools he said denied access.
Why it matters
Government schools are public institutions, and evidence about their facilities and services can support accountability. At the same time, access to an operating school campus can involve administrative, child-safety and safeguarding rules. The evidentiary question is therefore more precise than whether citizen audits are desirable: what access was requested, under what rules, who refused it, and whether any higher authority directed the refusal.
For this incident, the strongest supported conclusion is that Das’s team encountered a closed gate and publicly alleged official obstruction, while district education officials denied the separate claim that schools had been ordered closed. The reason for the team’s exclusion and the existence or contents of any higher-level instruction remain unverified.
